Re: New Student ID Numbers for the Cafeteria Program

To date, we have worked hard to implement a new computerized cash register system in the cafeterias in all four schools. This system is working well, and students have adjusted to using their student ID numbers in order to get a breakfast or lunch. Currently, the students are issued new student ID numbers as they advance to the next school.

To make the process easier, we are issuing new student ID numbers to all secondary students. This number wilt be their permanent number until they graduate from GHS.

Every student will have their own personal meal account based on their current student ID number. Please note that this number is different than the number your son/daughter used last year.

HAVE YOUR SON/DAUGHTER BRING THIS CARD WITH THEM EVERY DAY UNTIL THEY HAVE LEARNED THEIR NUMBER.

Students can access their accounts on the PIN pads located at any register. It is strongly recommended that all students remember their numbers, as this will make the lunch lines move faster. If they should forget their number, we can easily access it, but it will slow down the line. They also should not share their numbers with any other student.

Students can still pay cash. However, we encourage parents to deposit money into the student's account. Monies paid on account can only be used for breakfast and the Regular and Alternative lunches. This way, parents are assured that their money is being used to purchase meals only. All ala carte sales must be paid with cash. When sending in money by check or cash, please include the student's ID number on the check or envelope. This system allows students to access their account when there is only a positive balance. Students are not allowed to charge at the Secondary Level.

If your son/daughter is qualified for Free or Reduced price lunches or breakfasts, this information is in the system, and the meal will be processed just as it is for all other students.

If you are concerned about a food allergy that your student has, please notify the cafeteria with this information. A warning will appear on the cashier's screen for a quick review of the items on the student's tray.

Thank you in advance for your patience in implementing this system.

Information about the new computerized
cash register system:

When the account is prepaid you can be sure that your student is only using that money for nutritious lunches or breakfasts served in the cafeteria.

Lunch is defined as a choice of entree, milk choice and up to four side dishes available to all students.

For those students receiving free and reduced-price meals, their meals will be rung up as all the other meals are. No one will know whether they are receiving a free or reduced-price meal or if they are debiting their account, except for the cashier.

Lunch lines move faster when meals are pre-paid, thus giving students more time to enjoy their lunch period.

Parents can pay any amount at any time. Students can prepay on the line with cash or parents can send in checks (with the student ID number on it), and students can give this to the cashier right on the line. You are only charged for the lunches/breakfasts that are debited to your student's ID academic eligibility number. All student ID numbers are confidential.

Some students purchase double lunches. Only one may be debited to your account.

All ala carte items must be purchased with cash. Parents can be assured that all prepaid monies can be used for lunch or breakfast only.

PIN pads are easy to use for all students.

Prepayment allows for better security than cash.

Once the transaction has been completed, your student will know his or her account balance.

Students may use any register. When a lunch or breakfast is recorded at one register, it will automatically be recorded on the other registers.

When accounts get low, students will be informed at the register of their balance.

Pre-payment options:

You can send in prepayment monies at any time. We recommend that parents send in checks rather than cash. All monies should be submitted only to cafeteria personnel.

Checks should be made payable to "Geneva City Schools Cafeteria Account."

When sending in pre-payment, please include the student's ID number on the face of the check. If you send in cash, please indicate on the face of the envelope the student's ID number or name.
