IDEA Effective
Instructional Practices Review
The New York State Education
Department (NYSED) Office of Vocational and Educational Services for
Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) has initiated a Special Education
Quality Assurance Review in the Geneva City School District during the
2006-2007 school year. The purpose of this Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Effective Instructional Practices
Focused Review is to assess our district’s compliance with selected
Federal and State laws and regulations governing the education of
students with disabilities as well as its ability to meet key
performance indicators identified by NYSED. A select group of
individuals will participate in the Focused Review team lead by Karen
Donahue, State Education Department Regional Associate, to examine our
school’s data, interview teachers and parents, observe instructional
practices, and explore systems that have been established to support
students with disabilities. At the end of the Focused Review, a
presentation to the School Board will highlight the findings, areas of
strength, corrective action plans, and projected areas of improvement.
Please feel free to contact Erin Meehan-Fairben, the Director of PPS
